Is Your Central Heating Secretly Harming Your Skin? Here’s My Go-To Fix.

For me, one of the best parts of autumn in Ontario is that first day you decide it's chilly enough to finally turn on the heat. That cozy warmth is just everything! But for years, I noticed that along with the comfort came something I didn’t love: dry, tight, and seriously unhappy skin.

I thought it was just something I had to live with every year… until I figured out the real culprit and found a simple, natural way to fight back. If your skin also starts to protest the moment the furnace kicks on, then this post is for you.

So, What's Actually Happening to Our Skin?

I used to just blame the cold, but the real issue is the air. When our central heating warms up the cool, dry air in our homes, it dramatically lowers the humidity. This warm, thirsty air then starts pulling moisture from wherever it can find it—including your skin!

It’s a constant, invisible process that leaves your skin’s protective barrier weak, dehydrated, and stressed out.

Are You Dealing with 'Heater Skin'?

If you’re experiencing any of this, you’ve got what I call ‘heater skin’:

  • That tight feeling right after you wash your face.

  • Random flaky patches that appear out of nowhere.

  • A general dullness that has you missing your summer glow.

  • Skin that feels more sensitive or itchy than usual.

If you're nodding along, I feel you! Here's the simple routine I now swear by to keep my skin happy and hydrated all season long.

My Simple Routine for a Healthy Glow

It’s all about giving your skin what the air is taking away: hydration and protection.

Step 1: A Gentle Cleanse is a Must The first mistake I used to make was using a harsh cleanser that left my skin feeling "squeaky clean." That feeling is actually your skin barrier being stripped! I switched to a super gentle, hydrating cleanser, and it made a world of difference. I recommend the Glow Cleanse, of course, because it’s what I personally use to clean my skin without ever stripping it of its natural oils.

Step 2: Add a Layer of Hydration Think of this step as giving your thirsty skin a big drink of water. After cleansing, while my skin is still a little damp, I apply a few drops of a hydrating serum. The Hyaluronic Acid in the Glow Getter Serum is amazing for this, as it pulls moisture deep into the skin.

Step 3: The Secret Weapon (This is the Game-Changer!) Now for the most important step. You have to lock all that lovely hydration in. If you don't, the dry air will just pull it out again.

My absolute hero product for this is the Nourish and Glow Face Oil. A few drops of this oil create a light, breathable seal over your skin. It stops the dry air from stealing your moisture and provides your skin with nutrients to repair its own barrier. It's honestly the single best thing I’ve ever used to combat winter dryness and keep my skin looking radiant. It doesn't clog my pores—it just makes my skin feel soft, comfortable, and protected.

You Don't Have to Choose!

You honestly don’t have to sacrifice your skin for a warm, cozy home. It’s all about giving it a little extra love and protection. This routine has made such a difference for me, and I hope it helps you too.
